VOCAB presents Serendipity (Spoken Word/Music)

Life sure is beautiful and this show is proof of just that.

Months ago our founder had a impromptu visit to her mother's house and on the television was a showcase of this month's musical feature. His talent and story is one we are honored to have at VOCAB. You will be just as amazed at this month's musical feature:
CRESENT ULMER  http://crescentisalive.com/

Last year, our founder's partner was having a art show and this month's spoken word feature was performing as well. Her story of being a Mexican Muslim woman, struck a chord. It was then at a chance encounter at the neighborhood coffeeshop, they ran into each other and she will be our spoken word feature:
ELIZABETH ASMAA VALENCIA

This month will also be welcoming our newest member of the VOCAB family, DJ STYLISTIC.

Sean Patton

ONE NIGHT ONLY!

$10 Advance / $12 Day of Event

Doors 7pm, Show 8pm

Monday, October 2

All Seating is First Come, First Served.

Hello, my name is Sean Patton. I’m a comedian based in Los Angeles and New York, by way of New Orleans. I began doing stand-up in the Crescent City and have since performed in comedy clubs across the US and Canada. I’ve also performed at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2011), Just for Laughs Chicago (2013), Just for Laughs Toronto (2013), and Just for Laughs Montreal (2008, 2010, 2012). I’ve performed on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham (2009), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (2010), and Conan (2011, 2013). 2013 also marked the release of my Comedy Central Half Hour. More recently, I’ve been on @midnight (2014, 2015) and will be on the second seasons of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail (2015) and This Is Not Happening (2015). As for acting, I've appeared on IFC'S Maron and Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer.

Those are the things I’ve done that I’m proud of. For a list of things I’ve done that I’m not so proud of... yeah right, you ain’t never gonna know that! I love what I do, some of you will too (thanks!), and some of you will not (but thanks for coming).

I want to share myself with you, whomever you are.

"I’ve seen him perform more than a dozen sets, and he’s killed every time. He’s dynamite, even with ordinary material, turning standard Brooklyn hipster jokes into a stomping, roaring tour de force, and elevating a bit about sex-performance anxiety into high-stakes comedy. [...] He’s the rare comic who goes over as well in a comedy club as in a bar basement."

Left Lane Cruiser is comprised of Joe Evans on slide guitar and vocals with Brenn Beck on one big-ass bass drum, harmonica and a toolbox full of percussive gear. The raw blues duo of LLC have practiced through thick and thin to hone a sound unlike any other and have been together long enough to have previously released a couple of self-produced EPs. "Let your soul drive what you do" is the premise of their music, "give it all you got, and everything is an instrument: trash cans, paint trays, hubcaps, ladders, you name it."
Learning their craft by playing at house parties, at the corner streets of their home town, and rehearsing in a heatless garage, they have developed their personal take on the North Mississippi Hill Country sound. They have toured relentlessly, sharing the stage with artists such as Robert Belfour, Black Diamond Heavies, Hillstomp, and Chris Cotton among others. They have also appeared at the infamous Deep Blues festival in River Falls Wisconsin in 2007.

"Bring Yo' Ass To The Table" is the culmination of everything these boys have experienced as a band during the four years of their existence, it's "greasy hot, shaved dry, and crazier than your smokin' methed-up ex-girlfriend who keeps singin' 'Down By The River I Shot My Baby' thru a two-dollar pawn shop mic she jerry-rigged thru that ol' gunshot black & white TV in the backyard and dedicating it to you with love m*therf*cker" to quote Deep Blues guru Rick Saunders.

In September 2008 Left Lane Cruiser embarked on their first European Tour. The first few shows were cancelled due to issues with passports upon initially arriving in the UK, forcing the two members to return to the United States for several days. Problems with passport were then resolved and Left Lane Cruiser resumed the tour.

Their third album, All You Can Eat, was released on Alive Records, September 15, 2009.

The band released its fourth album on March 1, 2011, on Alive Records, some of which was recorded with the John Wesley Myers, the keyboard player for the Black Diamond Heavies, also signed to Alive Records.

80s Blockbusters for a Buck Series

Top Gun - June 29

Raiders of the Lost Ark - July 11

Back to the Future - August 10

Contemporary high schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) doesn't have the most pleasant of lives. Browbeaten by his principal at school, Marty must also endure the acrimonious relationship between his nerdy father (Crispin Glover) and his lovely mother (Lea Thompson), who in turn suffer the bullying of middle-aged jerk Biff (Thomas F. Wilson), Marty's dad's supervisor. The one balm in Marty's life is his friendship with eccentric scientist Doc (Christopher Lloyd), who at present is working on a time machine. Accidentally zapped back into the 1950s, Marty inadvertently interferes with the budding romance of his now-teenaged parents. Our hero must now reunite his parents-to-be, lest he cease to exist in the 1980s. It won't be easy, especially with the loutish Biff, now also a teenager, complicating matters. Beyond its dazzling special effects, the best element of Back to the Future is the performance of Michael J. Fox, who finds himself in the quagmire of surviving the white-bread 1950s with a hip 1980s mindset.

Ben Kronberg's star is certainly on the rise. Ben's unique style blends clever one-liners and witty observations with catchy songs that he performs while playing instruments like the guitar, casio-keyboard, and loop-pedal. Much of his material has been inspired by girlfriends, who are now, incidentally, ex-girlfriends. Since his breakout performance in Aspen, Ben has performed on late night shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly. Ben has also appeared twice on ABC's hit game show, Wipeout - one time as a normal contestant, and most recently in the All-Star Episode. He lost both times, but would still go back for a third helping of pain if asked. He recently filmed his own half hour special for Comedy Central and performed on John Oliver's NY Stand Up Special. Ben currently resides in New York City where he creates original content for the web and is starring in a stand-up comedy based pilot that is currently in production.

Future Science (a Multimedia Sketch Comedy Event)

Harebrained Comedy and Rocketship Comedy are proud to welcome back Cincinnati’s hit comedy show, Future Science*, to Indianapolis.

The night will also feature standup from Jonathan Pfendler and Wille Bostic

Doors 8, show 9. $5 cash. 21 and up with ID. general admission. all seating is first come, first served.

*Future Science is a division of the Monolith Corporation tasked with collecting and presenting scientific data from the past, present and future. Doctors Karl Spaeth, Logan Lautzenheiser, Andy Gasper and Professor Chris Weir invite experts in every scientific field to come give informed talks to the public. The scientists welcome surprise guests to the stage, and show scientific educational videos.

Future Science is also a live multimedia sketch comedy show written and performed by comedians Karl Spaeth, Logan Lautzenheiser, Andy Gasper and Chris Weir. The comedians play fictionalized scientist versions of themselves, setting the show in a world where every TED Talk is given by an insane person. Their absurdist comedy is equal parts sharp intelligence and unapologetic silliness. They combine their influences of Mr. Show, Kids in the Hall and Late Night with Conan O’Brien into something utterly original.

A new hour long show has been performed the last Sunday of every month at MOTR Pub since 2014. The group has accumulated over 230 sketches and videos, and will bring the best of those out on a tour throughout the Midwest in 2016. Future Science was created with the very simple purpose of making people laugh, and they hope to do just that in your town this summer.

"Future Science is a hilarious trip through everything from love to crime, teaching us what we never knew we didn't know." - Geoff Tate (Doug Loves Movies, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson)

"I had the opportunity to catch Future Science when I was doing shows in Cincinnati, and I love it! Funny from top to bottom, and constantly inventive and fresh. Four and a half stars! I only withhold that half-star because no one gave me any nachos, or even asked if I wanted them. For shame." - Adam Cayton-Holland (Those Who Can't (TruTV), Conan, @midnight)

We're working on the nachos thing.

Top Gun - June 29

Raiders of the Lost Ark - July 11

Back to the Future - August 10

Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is no ordinary archeologist. When we first see him, he is somewhere in the Peruvian jungle in 1936, running a booby-trapped gauntlet (complete with an over-sized rolling boulder) to fetch a solid-gold idol. He loses this artifact to his chief rival, a French archeologist named Belloq (Paul Freeman), who then prepares to kill our hero. In the first of many serial-like escapes, Indy eludes Belloq by hopping into a convenient plane. So, then: is Indiana Jones afraid of anything? Yes, snakes. The next time we see Jones, he's a soft-spoken, bespectacled professor. He is then summoned from his ivy-covered environs by Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott) to find the long-lost Ark of the Covenant. The Nazis, it seems, are already searching for the Ark, which the mystical-minded Hitler hopes to use to make his stormtroopers invincible. But to find the Ark, Indy must first secure a medallion kept under the protection of Indy's old friend Abner Ravenwood, whose daughter, Marion (Karen Allen), evidently has a "history" with Jones. Whatever their personal differences, Indy and Marion become partners in one action-packed adventure after another, ranging from wandering the snake pits of the Well of Souls to surviving the pyrotechnic unearthing of the sacred Ark. A joint project of Hollywood prodigies George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, with a script co-written by Lawrence Kasdan and Philip Kaufman, among others, Raiders of the Lost Ark is not so much a movie as a 115-minute thrill ride

Top Gun - June 29

Raiders of the Lost Ark - July 11

Back to the Future - August 10

Devil-may-care navy pilot Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is sent to Miramar Naval Air Station for advanced training. Here he vies with Tom Kasansky (Val Kilmer) for the coveted "Top Gun" award. When not so occupied, Mitchell carries on a romance with civilian consultant Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis). Shaken up by the death of a friend, Mitchell loses the Top Gun honor to Kasansky. Worried that he may have lost his nerve, Mitchell is given a chance to redeem himself during a tense international crisis involving a crippled US vessel and a flock of predatory enemy planes. The story wasn't new in 1986, but Top Gun scored with audiences on the strength of its visuals, especially the vertigo-inducing aerial sequences. The film made more money than any other film in 1986 and even spawned a 1989 takeoff, Hot Shots. An Academy Award went to the Giogio Moroder-Tom Whitlock song "Take My Breath Away."
